Whitelist applications for Liquid Apes close on 16 October. After that, the project says, "the door closes and attention turns towards the mint." Liquid's founders told DeFi Market Journal the mint follows seven to ten days later, which puts it in the last week of October. If you want a place at the start line, the application is on LiquidApes.com and the clock is the only thing that matters now.
What you're applying for
A whitelist spot is the right to buy, not a free ape. Liquid Apes is 10,000 hand-drawn apes at 0.08 ETH each, minting on Ethereum, with 50% of every mint locked as liquidity behind the NFT through Liquid. The numbers echo the Bored Ape Yacht Club's 2021 launch on purpose. The other route to a spot is the free NOT THE LIQUID APES collection on OpenSea, where one in ten of the 10,000 mints carries a guaranteed whitelist place. That mint also runs to 16 October, and winners have to register their wallet at LiquidApes.com before the deadline. We covered it here.
The magazine takeover
Issue 15 of Crypto Magazine went to print this week, and Liquid Apes has the front cover, a four-page feature and seven full-page adverts. The Big Crypto Giveaway, another CMC Group campaign, has the back cover. CMC Group owns the magazine as well as Liquid, and its October newsletter calls the placement "prime magazine real estate worth tens of thousands of dollars". It's an in-house booking, so treat that figure as a rate card, not a cheque that changed hands.
The reach is real, though. The magazine's US distribution has just expanded, and the company is aiming for a million readers globally by the end of the year. A print run that lands in US airport newsstands in the weeks before a mint is a large shop window for a collection most NFT buyers haven't heard of.
What the company is betting
The newsletter is blunt about it: the group thinks Liquid Apes "could be the catalyst that lights the blue touch-paper on the Liquid platform." Two years of building, a platform the founders now call finished, and a flagship collection timed to land as the marketing goes loud. If the apes sell out, Liquid gets its first crowd of Ethereum buyers and the revenue share holders get a visible bump on the 1st of the month. If they don't, the whole group has spent its cover on it.
The date to watch is 16 October. Then the mint. We'll report the sell-through.
